Kylian Mbappé is already taking his ‘first steps’ as a Real Madrid player, as well as a resident in our country. It goes without saying that the ‘machinery’ of the Real Madrid team will be making everything easier for him so that his installation in Madrid is as much as possible to his liking. Among these facilities is the loan of a car for the player’s travels, and Marca Coches has been able to find out that BMW, by virtue of the agreement it has with the Real Madrid entity, has provided him with an i7 .
The i7 M70 xDrive , the version that has been left to the French star, is not actually the most expensive or the most powerful BMW model, merits that now fall to the XM Red Label plug-in hybrid SUV (201,500 euros). But it is the most luxurious and the most representative model .
660 HP
It is an electric sedan with two engines, one on the rear axle with 489 hp and another on the front with 258 hp, which as the sum of powers is never arithmetic, comes to 660 hp of total maximum power. All this with a maximum torque output of 1,100 Nm, which is a real outrage.
With these figures, the most powerful i7 can reach 250 km/h (of course, the speed is electronically limited) and go from 0 to 100 in 3.7 seconds if we use the M Launch Control function, which will literally make Mbappé feel like a ‘human bullet’ with his back crushed against the seatback.
The battery of this ‘rolling ocean liner’ is in keeping with its enormous size: no less than 101.7 kWh of capacity, with which you can officially travel between 488 and 560 km depending on the type of road you drive on (you already know that, in electric cars, the autonomy is lower on the highway than in the city).
But more than its ‘longitudinal momentum’, what surprises the most about this BMW i7 is the wonderful behaviour given by its active stabilisers, electronically regulated shock absorbers and automatic levelling. This, in practice, means that the BMW turns almost flat no matter how fast we go. But the i7 also ‘sees’ the road and is able to anticipate any pothole or speed bump that it finds on the road. It does this by adapting the suspension in the best way for what is coming and even reducing speed if it considers it necessary.
The consequence is that when the car in front of us ‘twists’ with a strong jolt due to this irregularity in the asphalt, this BMW passes by absorbing it as if that same pothole or speed bump were much smaller .
But the comfort with which Mbappé will travel in the rear seats (the French star does not have a driving license) also owes much to exclusive details, such as the doors that close by themselves after pressing a button (thank goodness, because they weigh a lot). Once inside, on the armrest of the doors itself he has within reach a screen from which he can control by touch the climate control in his own seat, the ventilation or heating of the seat, the type of massage he wants and the opening or closing of the side and rear curtains .
Recline the chair
But the best part comes when you choose the option to recline the seat . To do this, the choreography begins by moving the front passenger seat forward, then folding down the rear seat almost like the best class seat would do on a transoceanic flight.
And, to top it off, by touching the door screen itself, a huge 31.3-inch screen is unfolded from the ceiling, which also includes Amazon TV so that the French star can follow his favourite series from the moment he leaves training.
