Xabi Alonso signs for Bayern and take a Real Madrid player
The panorama of elite European football could change quickly due to the decision that Real Madrid made official shortly before the end of 2023: the modifications would arrive in mid-2024.
Real Madrid announced the renewal of Carlo Ancelotti when we least expected it . Thinking that the official statement would be delayed until this summer to avoid ‘scares’ in the Valdebebas offices, the board of directors led by Florentino Pérez took the initiative and extended the stay of the Reggiolo coach for two more years on the local bench of the Santiago Bernabéu .
This contract renewal temporarily eliminates one of the debates that Real Madrid had pending resolution : the future coach of the merengue discipline. All the rumors pointed to the fact that the ideal candidate to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at the head of the white team was Xabi Alonso , an opinion that would not have changed in recent months.
But Carlo Ancelotti’s extension as coach of Real Madrid until the summer of 2026 postpones Real Madrid’s presence in the race to acquire the Basque coach’s contract for the 24/25 season. With the merengue team ‘out of the game’, Bayern Munich becomes the main interested party in signing Xabi Alonso as their coach.
The intensification of rumors in Germany also has an aspect that would end up affecting Real Madrid . Because Xabi Alonso would agree to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer to coach Bayern Munich, but he would bring a list of players under his arm: Fran García is the first.
The young left back, hired less than half a year ago, was the current substitute for Ferland Mendy and the future substitute for Alphonso Davies , so the merengue board of directors would not be so inclined to let him leave. Precisely that is why Xabi Alonso is interested: he would not be a very expensive signing and it was one of his failed signings for Bayer Leverkusen .
If Davies and Fran García star in this ‘exchange’ of full-backs, Florentino Pérez has enough candidates to fill the gap left by the ’20’: Miguel Gutiérrez, Valentín Barco, Jorrel Hato … Not so a Xabi Alonso who has just arrived on the bench local Allianz Arena, who should ask the Bavarian bosses for a new intervention in the transfer market to achieve the desired depth at left back.
