Mbappe deals a major blow to Paris Saint-Germain
One year after Paris Saint-Germain did the impossible to renew his contract, Kylian Mbappe is reconsidering once again his future at the Parisian club.
According to information from L’Equipe, the striker does not currently intend to renew until 2025, through a unilateral clause in his new contract, which allows him to stay for another year. Although it was announced at the time that his contract had been renewed for three seasons, it was renewed for two seasons and another optional one.
The item has an expiration date. Mbappe must implement it before July 31, 2023, therefore, if he does not do so, Paris Saint-Germain will find himself in the same situation in 2021, when Kylian asked to leave for Real Madrid and then managed to keep him and renew his contract in May 2022.
L’Equipe newspaper says: “The scenario is different” this time, confirming that he had already asked the board of directors in the fall to leave, despite the calming of tensions between the two parties.
Mbappe’s decision not to implement the unilateral renewal clause leads to enormous pressure on his club, Paris Saint-Germain, during the next market. After a failed year, with Luis Campos at the helm, the current Ligue 1 leaders cannot afford another misstep.
Should PSG fail to give him sporting guarantees, extending his contract, despite the fact that it will take a year for him to be released, could generate a distracting climate in Paris.
