Real Madrid agrees to a strong swap deal with Arsenal

Arsenal have made six new signings this summer, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristian Mosquera, and Victor Gjokeres joining the Emirates Stadium.

But it appears Arsenal are not done yet with the rumours that they are in the market for a new left-footed striker and central defender.

Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze was the main name linked with the attacking position, but Real Madrid’s Rodrygo was also on their radar.

Gabriel Magalhaes was hesitant last month when asked if Rodrygo could join Arsenal but admitted his Brazilian teammate is a “phenomenon”.

When asked if Rodrigo would join Arsenal this summer, Gabriel replied: “I don’t know, but of course I would. He’s a phenomenon, I’ve already told people, he’s a phenomenon! If it were up to me, of course!”

Now, Spanish website Defensa Central claims that Real Madrid have “agreed” to a swap deal that would see Rodrygo swap places with Arsenal defender Saliba.

Real Madrid are understood to be “very clear about the possibility of a Rodrygo-Saliba swap” with Los Blancos president Florentino Perez “ruling nothing out”.

“Selling Rodrygo would allow the long-awaited arrival of a centre-back,” with Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate “prime target,” but Xabi Alonso has not ruled out Saliba.

The report added: “The real target was always the Arsenal defender, but his high price, coupled with Konate’s contract expiring in June 2026, has put all the focus on the Liverpool player.”

However, Real Madrid would accept a swap of Rodrygo Goes for William Saliba, as the Brazilian is considered expendable, as proven at the Club World Cup, and the Frenchman is an excellent player in this position.
