Courtois: “If we had this player, we would have beaten Arsenal”

Thibaut Courtois spoke after the defeat to Arsenal and the team’s elimination from the Champions League, analyzing the reasons behind the defeat. However, he implicitly touched on the team’s offensive problems, saying that they needed a specific player to overcome Arsenal, but he is not available this year.

Courtois began talking about Saka’s penalty save: “When they give you a penalty, if you save it, you still have faith. At first, we created danger and I felt the fans. But Arsenal is a team that defends very well.”

He added: “It was very difficult to create danger. I felt that if we had scored after the break, we could have scored… but they scored against us. We tried, we kept believing… but we couldn’t. Raya didn’t have to make any saves. That’s the summary of the match.”

He continued: “They are a team that defends well and presses well. It’s difficult to find gaps. Maybe with long shots, we tried some crosses… but this year we don’t have Joselu, the natural striker.”

He continued: “There’s still a lot of the season ahead. The league, the cup, the Club World Cup… we have to achieve everything. We have to thank the fans. The atmosphere was very nice. I hope I can bring some joy to them this season.”

He continued, “Maybe sometimes you have to be critical of yourself and look at everything carefully. I feel like we’re a team, but sometimes we have to play more as a team and not individually.”

He concluded: “We have no doubts about Mr. Ancelotti. When the message reaches everyone, we must deliver it on the field.”
