Endrick puts Brazil in big trouble

The future ‘9’ of Real Madrid missed a penalty in the premiere of the final home run of the South American Olympic Qualifiers, which ends on Sunday in Venezuela. And Brazil, unexpectedly, ended up losing against Paraguay (0-1). What’s more, they finished bottom once the first day was played, in which Argentina and Venezuela shared the points (2-2) in a very high-voltage match.

There are two places at stake for Paris 2024 and the Seleçao, which is the current two-time Olympic champion after the golds in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020 , has no room for error.

On Thursday they face the first final against the hosts and, in the event of another slip, they could end up mathematically saying goodbye to the options of going to the Olympic Games. The tournament will close on Sunday, with a superclásico against Argentina led by former Blaugrana Javier Mascherano .

Endrick, who is still 17 years old and plays in an under-23 competition, had been the great Brazilian star in the first phase of the Pre-Olympic, where he scored two goals (which helped win the first six points) and gave an assist. However, his failure from eleven meters could have very negative consequences for a Seleçao, now under pressure and with many doubts.

The young striker is competing in the Pre-Olympic because it is an imposition of Real Madrid. If it were up to its current team, Palmeiras would be in Brazil facing official commitments at the beginning of the 2024 season. On Sunday, for example, Verdao lost the first title of the season when it was beaten, in the penalty shootout, by the Sao Paulo in the final of the Brazilian Super Cup.
