2 players inform Florentino Pérez that they want to leave Real Madrid
Real Madrid has started the 2023/24 season with good feelings. Despite the departure of Karim Benzema and the fact that Kylian Mbappé could not arrive in the summer, as planned, Carlo Ancelotti ‘s team has had a good first half of the season.
They are leaders of the League, tied with Girona , and after having beaten Barça at home, in addition to having qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League as group leaders. The big signing of the summer, Jude Bellingham , has started his adventure with Real Madrid demonstrating his enormous quality, and showing a great understanding with Vinícius , with whom he already forms a spectacular duo.
However, not all Real Madrid players are happy with their current situation, considering that they are not getting the opportunities they expected. Both, in fact, will not continue in Real Madrid next season, as Marca journalist José Félix Díaz has advanced. It is about Luka Modric and Andriy Lunin .
The case that worries the most is that of Modric, who after a summer in which it seemed he would pack his bags , ended up agreeing to renew his contract with Real Madrid, after a conversation with Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian coach assured him that he would continue to be an important piece, so Modric decided to renew.
“They wanted me to stay and I had the same desire. My only condition to stay was that they treated me as a competitive player, and that they did not keep me in the squad based on past merits. They told me that nothing I wouldn’t change my status, and that’s why I signed,” Modric said in an interview with the Croatian sports newspaper Sportske Novosti .
Modric, therefore, believes that the promise has not been fulfilled , which is why he has already decided to leave the Santiago Bernabéu once the season is over, aware that he will not be the undisputed starter at Real Madrid again.
The Croatian has significant offers from the Premier League and American football, although it is not ruled out that he will hang up his boots, depending on how he goes in the second half of the season and the upcoming European Championship.
Lunin, for his part, is very angry about the treatment he has received from Real Madrid. The Ukrainian started the season as Courtois ‘ understudy , so he expected to be the starting goalkeeper once the Belgian’s serious knee injury was confirmed. Ancelotti, however, asked for a substitute for guarantees and Real Madrid signed Kepa , who just landed in Madrid took the place as a starter.
That decision made it very clear to Lunin that he will never be Real Madrid’s starting goalkeeper, since once Courtois returns he will become the third goalkeeper in the squad. At 25 years old and after 6 seasons waiting for his chance, the Ukrainian has already made the decision to change his mind in the summer. There is no going back.
