Valverde response to Chelsea offer
Valverde is one of Real Madrid’s most important assets after impressive successive seasons that saw him play a key role in Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
Recent reports have suggested incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring the 24-year-old to Stamford Bridge as he looks to rebuild his side after a dismal season.
But Valverde ruled out moving to West London, insisting that he wanted to leave his “mark” at “the best club in the world.”
Speaking to ESPN Argentina when asked about Chelsea’s offer, Valverde said: “No, no… I’m in Madrid, trying to enjoy every moment and leave my mark on the best club in the world. I want to keep winning trophies for Real Madrid fans.”
Valverde moved to the Spanish capital in 2018, joining Madrid’s B team before quickly rising through the ranks and becoming one of the best players in the world.
He has scored 18 goals and provided 15 assists in 204 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, having played as a striker and in midfield.
Real Madrid are trying to build a midfield for the future, with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric nearing the end of their careers, and Valverde’s importance appears to have prompted club president Florentino Perez to shell out £85m for the player.
Liverpool were also said to be keen on adding the Uruguay to their midfield after securing the signing of Alexis McAllister from Brighton.
But his future appears to be nailed in the Spanish capital after he signed a contract extension two years ago that will keep him there until 2027 and includes a release clause of £856m.
Valverde will vie for a place in the team with Judd Bellingham next season after the England international completed a sensational £113m transfer to the Bernabeu from Borussia Dortmund this week.
